Eligibility Requirements for Canadian Citizenship
To apply for Canadian citizenship, applicants must meet several key criteria set by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC):
- Permanent Resident Status — You must hold valid PR status in Canada and meet residency obligations.
- Physical Presence in Canada — Applicants must have been physically present in Canada for at least 1,095 days (three years) within the last five years.
- Income Tax Filings — If required under the Income Tax Act, you must have filed taxes for at least three years.
- Language Proficiency — If you are between the ages of 18 and 54, you must demonstrate proficiency in English or French.
- Knowledge of Canada — You must pass a citizenship test, demonstrating an understanding of Canada's history, values, institutions, and symbols.
