Super Visa

Long-stay multi-entry visa for parents and grandparents of Canadian citizens and PRs.

Extended Stay Options for Parents and Grandparents

The Super Visa allows parents and grandparents of Canadian citizens or permanent residents to visit family in Canada for extended periods, with stays of up to two years without renewal. This multiple-entry visa, valid for up to 10 years, provides an excellent option for families looking to spend significant time together.

Super Visa Requirements

To qualify for the Super Visa, applicants must demonstrate they are admissible to Canada, have adequate financial support from their Canadian family members, and meet specific medical insurance requirements. Key requirements include:

  • Proof of relationship with a Canadian citizen or permanent resident.
  • Written commitment of financial support from the sponsoring child or grandchild.
  • Medical insurance coverage from a Canadian insurance company valid for at least one year, with a minimum coverage amount.

Factors Considered in the Super Visa Application

Visa officers assess applicants on their ties to their home country, the purpose of their visit, family and financial situations, and overall country conditions. Home country ties, financial stability, and intent to return are significant factors in the decision.

Super Visa vs. Sponsorship

It's important to remember that the Super Visa is a temporary permit. Permanent residency for parents and grandparents is pursued through the Parent and Grandparent Sponsorship program, which operates on a separate lottery-based intake.
